Extrakaryotic Inheritance: Mitochondrial Genetics

Abstract

Mitochondrial (mt) research in the last years has made progress in several interesting fields: RNA processing (especially in fungal systems) , organization and function of the mt genome of higher plants, gene transfer between organelles, nuclear-mitochondrial interactions, and recombination and replication of mt DNA. Since several of these topics were covered by the last article of this series (PRATJE 1984), and since excellent up to date reviews are available for almost all of them (see below), this article will focus on two topics only: analysis of cytoplasmic male sterility (cms) in higher plants, and mt plasmids.
