Abstract

Lung separation is an anomaly of the lung characterized by three anatomical entities: abnormal arterial blood supply, bronchial anomaly and parenchymatous dysgenesis. Aetiologically, an embryonic maldevelopment is responsible. Numerous explanations have been suggested (Table 1). If the malformed part of the lung is located within a lung lobe or segment it is referred to as intralobar separation (Fig.l), while the term extralobar separation is used if it is separated from the lung (Fig. 2). This lung anomaly has been described by different terms (Table 2).
