Abstract

Radiographic changes in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) represent sequelae of mechanisms which lead to tissue destruction. Although there are no radio-logic abnormalities pathognomonic of SLE, the radiologist can be helpful to the clinician in establishing certain patterns of organ involvement and in the differential diagnosis. In this respect, X-rays of the chest and joints are of particular importance. With regard to abnormalities of the heart, liver, lymph nodes, kidney, and exocrine glands, sonography and isotope scanning techniques can often be helpful, whereas computerized tomography or angiography will only rarely be indicated for these organs.
