Zusammenfassung
Im Verlauf der letzten Jahre hat die Rolle der reaktiven Sauerstoffspezies bei entzündlichen Reaktionen beträchtliches Interesse geweckt [1–3]. Dies hat zwangsläufig bewirkt, daß zur Behandlung von Entzündungen Sauerstoffradikalfanger herangezogen werden. Superoxiddismutase (SOD) und Katalase, die als endogene Enzyme den Abbau des Superoxidanions bzw. des Wasserstoffperoxids (H2O2) katalysieren, sind mit einem gewissen Erfolg therapeutisch eingesetzt worden, jedoch ist die Verabreichung eines Enzymproteins nicht unproblematisch [3]. Ein weiteres endogenes Scavengerenzym ist die Glutathionperoxidase (GSH-Px), die sowohl H2O2 als auch Lipidperoxide inaktiviert. Das Aktivitätszentrum dieses Enzyms enthält Selen [4].
