Abstract
It was the distinguished organic chemist, Emil Fischer (1907), who clearly demonstrated the protein nature of spider silk. Only much later (F.G. Fischer and Brander 1960) was it realized that the orb web contains low molecular weight, water soluble comĀpounds as well.
