Abstract

Our voice prosthesis was used in 36 patients when there were the following indications:
  • Failure of Staffierii’s neoglottis in 12 cases:

8 because the neoglottis was too wide,

4 because the neoglottis was too narrow (voice was difficult or impossible).

  • Failure of Staffieri’s shunt (tracheo-oesophagus) a long time after total laryngectomy in 8 cases:

2 because the shunt was too wide

    4 because of stenosis

1 because of a prior unsatisfactory prosthesis insertion

1 because of placement a long time after failure of the shunt (stenosis)

  • Placement during total laryngectomy in 13 cases.

  • Placement a long time after total laryngectomy and unsuccessful oesophagus voice training in 3 cases.
