Surgical Removal of an Intrapontine Hematoma. Case Report

  • Conference paper
Surgery in and around the Brain Stem and the Third Ventricle

Abstract

The majority of brain stem hematomas is located within the pons [5]. Nowadays, these hematomas most often are clearly diagnosed by CT scan. Patients suffering from brain stem hematoma rarely show an acute onset of symptoms [1, 2, 8-ll, 18]. They tend to have a history of progressive or alternating neurological deficits. In most patients reported in the literature, surgical evacuation of the hematoma led to rapid clinical improvement [1, 2, 4, 6-ll, 13, 14, 16–18, 20].
