Abstract

Much of the discussion of solid state chemistry takes for granted a familiarity with the structures of a number of key structures and structure types. It is therefore necessary to become familiar with a variety of crystal structures and their descriptions and interrelationships. Two detailed and, for most purposes, complete reference works with which students of solid state chemistry should become familiar are Structural Inorganic Chemistry by A. F. Wells [25] and the Handbook of Lattice Spacings and Structures of Metals, Vol. 2 by W. B. Pearson [26]. Only a few selected structures are discussed here with the view of providing an initial introduction to a vast subject.
