Chlamydial Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

Abstract

During the last decade it has been established that Chlamydia trachomatis is a common, if not the most common, etiological agent of uncomplicated genital infections in the male (viz., of nongonococcal urethritis) and in the female (viz., of cervicitis) [1-4]. Since 1977 it has also been known that C. trachomatis can ascend to the upper genital tract and infect the epididymis [5] and the fallopian tubes [6].
