Part of the book series: Current Topics in Microbiology and Immunology ((CT MICROBIOLOGY,volume 126))

Abstract

It is generally believed that T lymphocytes develop from immature hemopoietic cells in the thymus. The thymus contains various subpopulations of lymphocytes, but little is known about their precursor-product relationship. Some of these connections have recently been studied in organ culture as well as in short-term culture of dissociated thymocytes and will be summarized below. In addition initial data on the ontogeny of T-cell receptor expression will be discussed.
