Abstract

Thymomas are relatively rare but, in adults, they are the commonest tumors of the anterosuperior mediastinum where they represent 29%–47% of all neoplasms (Rubush et al. 1973; Mullen and Richardson 1986). However, these tumors are far less frequently seen in children (Mullen and Richardson 1986), and most cases are actually misdiagnosed lymphoblastic lymphomas of the thymus (Rosai 1981). True thymomas in children tend to be aggressive lesions with a poor prognosis (ibid).
