Zusammenfassung

Der Name Xanthin stammt von seiner Gelbfärbung in Anwesenheit der Salpetersäure (griech.: xanthos = gelb). Es wurde 1817 von Marcet in bestimmten Harnsteinen (Xanthinsteinen) gefunden. Seine Synthese (aus Guanin) gelang Strecker 1858, seine chemische Struktur wurde 1897 von E. Fischer aufgeklärt.
