Abstract
Crop protection, in its early stages, has developed as a number of separate scientific disciplines, including entomology, phytopathology, nematology, weed science, etc., which proceeded on parallel paths rather than in unison. In the case of entomology, in particular, this was largely due to the preponderance of medical entomological research. Weed science was just a part of botanical research until close to the 1950’s.
