Abstract

History. Now that chondrosarcoma (Ewing 1939) and fibrosarcoma (Budd and McDonald 1943) have been separated from “osteogenic sarcoma,” the term “osteosarcoma” is used to designate the malignant tumor of bone that directly forms tumor osteoid. This strict differentiation is important mainly because of prognostic implications.
