The Ecological Impact of the East Greenland Current on the North Icelandic Waters

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIG,volume 7))

Abstract

Weight and growth of cod and capelin of different year classes in Icelandic waters are compared with variations of hydro-biological conditions in North Icelandic waters. The main results show a postive relation of these fish stocks to hydro-graphic conditions. The growth of capelin seems to be related to the hydrographic conditions but the growth and maturity of cod related to the stock size of capelin and/or to the occurence of arctic water in the North Icelandic shelf area.
