Fossil Fuel Aromatic Hydrocarbon Biogeochemistry in the Marine Environment: Research Challenges

  • Conference paper
Book cover Strategies and Advanced Techniques for Marine Pollution Studies

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIG,volume 9))

Abstract

Knowledge of biogeochemical cycles provides information about when, where, for how long, and in which physical-chemical or biological form organisms will be exposed to a pollutant. Biogeochemical research seeks to discover more about routes of inputs and movement of chemicals through the systems being studied; rates of these inputs and movements; reactions during these movements; and both long term and short term reservoirs (years, days or weeks) where compounds accumulate; the four “R’s” of biogeochemical research - routes, rates, reactions, reservoirs.
