In discussing problems concerning stDNA distribution, two questions must be answered. The first can be formulated as follows: do all eukaryotic species, both lower and higher, contain stDNAs? It is difficult as yet to give a final answer to this question. Published data permit to draw a conclusion that all eukaryotes contain hrDNAs. However, usually only part of these sequences is organized into tandem repeats — stDNAs.
