Abstract

Since Simoni et al. (1983) presented the first series of fetal karyotypes performed on first trimester chorionic villi samples (CVS), several authors have described their experiences in attempting to modify the sampling methods and techniques of chromosomal analysis (Rodeck et al. 1983; Gustavii 1983; Schwab et al. 1984; Heaton et al. 1984). Ghirardini et al. (1985) described a new direct-vision technique performed with the Chorionscope-Wolff, capable of obtaining villi specimens with gentle aspiration and fine cutting.
