Abstract

Using a differential hybridization technique to screen a cDNA library constructed with mRNA from PC 12 (Green and Tischler 1976) cells treated with nerve growth factor (NGF) (Levi Montalcini 1966), we have characterized a cDNA clone, VGF8a, corresponding to a mRNA induced to high levels as an early response to NGF. Preliminary experiments suggest that the expression of such a mRNA is tissue specific and is restricted to nerve cells.
