Zusammenfassung
Die Modellwahl spielt bei der Analyse von Wachstumsdaten eine wichtige Rolle. Oftmals hat man keine Theorie, welche ein realistisches parametrisches Modell nahelegt, etwa wenn man das menschliche Größenwachstum als Funktion des Alters über ein großes Zeitintervall modelliert. Man ist jedoch daran interessiert, einen Einblick in die Gestalt der Wachstumskurve zu gewinnen und möglicherweise einige charakteristische Merkmale zu finden, wie z.B. das Alter der minimalen Wachstumsgeschwindigkeit (Wachstumsstart) als möglicher Indikator für den Pubertätsstart.
