Abstract
In the last decade, a number of technical developments have permitted to obtain reproducible, precise, and coherent measurements of the value of the intracellular pH (pHi) in different cell types. Several reviews have been recently published in which techniques used to measure pHi are compared and critically evaluated (Poole-Wilson 1978; Malan 1981; Roos and Boron 1981; Nuccitelli and Deamer 1982; Busa and Nuccitelli 1984; Thomas 1984).
