Zusammenfassung
SO2 und NO werden bei der Verbrennung fossiler Brennstoffe emittiert. Während das erzeugte S02 allein aus dem Schwefelgehalt des Brennstoffs stammt und daher durch Entschwefelung des Brennstoffs reduziert bzw. bei Verwendung schwefelfreier Brennstoffe ganz vermieden werden kann, entsteht NO selbst bei der Verbrennung nicht stickstoffhaltiger Energieträger durch die bei hohen Temperaturen einsetzende Oxidation des Luftstickstoffs. Der Grad der Umwandlung des im Energieträger chemisch gebundenen Stickstoffs in NO bzw. in unschädlichen molekularen Stickstoff hängtebenso wie die Oxidation des Luftsauerstoffs in Flammen stickstofffreier Brennstoffe - stark von der Verbrennungsführung, insbesondere von der Verbrennungstemperatur, dem Sauerstoffangebot und der Abkühlungsgeschwindigkeit der Abgase ab (Pohl et al. 1983)
