Zusammenfassung
Meteorismus heißt zu deutsch Blähsucht. (Das Wort ist abgeleitet von dem griechischen Wort Metéoros, d. h. in der Luft befindlich, oder von Meteorismos = Erhebung, Schwellung. Der Begriff wird medizinisch bereits von Hippokrates verwendet.) Meteoristisch, aufgebläht, bedeutet, daß zuviel Luft im Verdauungskanal vorhanden ist oder beim Pa-tienten die Empfindung vorherrscht, daß sie vorhanden sei, was längst nicht immer der Fall ist. Zuviel Luft kann überall im Verdauungskanal vorkommen, angefangen in der Speiseröhre (z. B. bei Achalasie), im Magen (z. B. Magenektasie bei diabetischer Azidose oder Obstruktion im distaleren Intestinalkanal), im Dünndarm, im Dickdarm (z. B. bei mechanischem oder paralytischem Ileus oder bei Pseudoobstruktion) aber auch im Enddarm, wobei hier häufiger der Begriff Flatulenz verwendet wird: zu viel und zu häufiger Abgang von Winden (Flatus). Meteorismus und Flatulenz sind also nicht dasselbe.
