Abstract

Arthur Hantzsch, who can really by called the first heterocyclic chemist, studied the reaction of aldehydes with β-dicarbonyl compounds and ammonia as part of his “Habilitation” work at the University of Leipzig, where he was a young assistant lecturer in the Chemistry Institute. The results of this work were first published by Hantzsch in the year 1882 [5].
