Abstract
The atlas or C1 vertebra is, to use Grégoire and Oberlins’ expression (Précis d’anatomie — Tête et Cou — Paris — Librairie J. B. Baillière et fils, 1954 — p. 34), a sort of “flat capital” on top of the vertebral column, extending beyond it all the way round.
