Unter den funktionellen Stimmstörungen nimmt die funktionelle Aphonie einen besonderen Platz ein. Während die große Majorität der nicht organischen Dysphonien durch Mißbrauch oder exzessive Überanstrengung der Stimme hervorgerufen wird, ist die funktionelle Aphonie als rein psychogen einzustufen.
