Abstract

Lesions developed within the cavernous sinus frequently determine ocular palsies sometimes associated with involvement of the first and/or second branch of the fifth cranial nerve. If a laterally developed pituitary lesion may be responsible for such a cavernous sinus syndrome, on the other hand, a cavernous lesion (mainly an aneurysm of the internal carotid artery) may also extend towards the pituitary fossa and affect the pituitary gland.
