Head and Neck Coverage

Microvascular Reconstruction

Abstract

One of the unsolved problems in dealing with the patient who has a major skin loss in the face is providing a skin replacement which is a good color match with the remaining skin. Facial skin defects are best replaced with skin flaps which are taken from above the clavicle. However, when a large soft tissue coverage is required, it is necessary to obtain the flap from below this region and a less suitable color match can be expected. The options are pedicled flaps such as the delto pectoral and acromiothoracic flap, and free flaps such as the groin, scapular, forearm or delto pectoral flap.
