Abstract

In the present study, the clinical importance of the coronary steal phenomenon was evaluated. A coronary steal is commonly initiated by useless dilatation of arterioles in myocardium which is not threatened by a deficit of perfusion, thus leading to a luxury perfusion of these areas. Under certain conditions, even a redistribution of blood occurs at the cost of myocardium, which has a tendency to become ischemic due to coronary stenoses or occlusions.
