Spatial Structures and Pattern Selection in Chemical Systems

Spatial structures are actually observed in an evergrowing class of chemically active media and their possible relation to numerous important biological phenomena is often emphasized [l, 2]. Hence the problem of their origin and selection is of particular importance and we review here the main results of the theory of spatial chemical patterns based on a stochastic reaction-diffusion description of nonlinear chemical networks.
