Diagnostic Value of Galactography in the Detection of Breast Cancer

  • Chapter
Early Breast Cancer

Abstract

Other than a lump, skin retraction, or pain in the breast, nipple discharge is the most common complaint of patients with breast problems. Nonpregnant patients with a serosanguinous, watery, or bloody discharge become alarmed as they think it may be due to cancer. The color of the discharge is of little value for the diagnosis. Cytology can be valuable but is not totally reliable. The method of choice is galactography (ductography, contrast mammography). Our experience with this method since 1964 is reported in this paper.
