Abstract
The noninvasive measurement of regional cerebral blood flow and metabolism in man was originally limited to departments where positron emission tomography, including an on-site cyclotron or special xenon devices, was available. In contrast, single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) can be performed with gamma-emitting radiopharmaceuticals which are routinely in use and may therefore gain wider importance in clinical practice.
