Abstract

By destroying or inactivating in a reversible manner the inferior olivary nucleus, the source of climbing fibers to the cerebellar cortex, it has been shown that, beside the disappearance of the Purkinje cell complex spikes, a parallel increase in the frequency of discharge of the simple spikes occurs (Colin et al. 1980, Montarolo et al. 1982). Such phenomenon has been studied so far in acute experiments in the order of time of minutes; therefore, it is interesting to investigate how long the simple spikes firing increase lasts, in the case of an irreversible lesion.
