Abstract

The Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) leads other industrial nations in the consumption of digitalis [5, 8]. Up to now known figures refer to the consumption data provided by pharmaceutical companies. To our knowledge, epidemiological studies on digitalis use have not yet been carried out. We therefore analysed the drug history of a random sample of the Munich population which was part of the Munich Blood Pressure Study. Furthermore, electrocardiographic findings and the serum creatinine which were available for the majority of the participants were evaluated. The goal of this analysis was the provision of data on the frequency of digitalis intake in the Munich population as well as data about prescribed dosages.
