Summary
Motor behavior should be considered not only from the perspective of enhancement of child and juvenile development and of basic motor skills, but also in regard to its function in arousal regulation. In the situation of our over-civilized industrial society it is very important to form and to preserve systems of self-control by motor behavior. Motor behavior can positively influence harmonious states of mind, because it leads to optimal levels or states of arousal which for their part have positive effects on regulation and stabilization processes in our organism. Research work on the recent jogging-movement substantiates the hypothesis that through regular and well-directed motor behavior experience states can be produced which may be compared to the effects of meditation techniques. Future research in sports should not only deal with the problems of increasing athletic performances, but also with the conditions of emotional satisfaction and the enhancement of human existence by motor behavior.
