Zusammenfassung
Das rätselhafte Phänomen des schizophrenen Prozesses und seine Behandlung standen im Verlauf der letzten 50 Jahre im Mittelpunkt eines wachsenden Forschungsinteresses. Trotz aller Fortschritte der dynamischen Psychiatrie und der Psychopharmakologie erlebte der Therapeut schizophrener Patientinnen und Patienten jedoch weiterhin Mißerfolge. Zwar hat die Psychopharmakologie den Umgang mit solchen Patienten sowohl innerhalb als auch außerhalb des Krankenhauses erheblich erleichtert, die durch dynamisch orientierte Therapeuten erzielte qualitative Verbesserung ihres intra- und interpersonalen Funktionierens läßt jedoch immer noch viel zu wünschen übrig.
