Antigen Report: HLA-DRw53

  • Conference paper
Histocompatibility Testing 1984

Abstract

During the Seventh Workshop, WIA4x7 was described with a set of sera containing activity for both DR4 and DR7. During the Eighth Workshop, new facts were observed:

  1. 1.

The specificity IA4x7 was defined by duo- or trispeciflc antisera [1]

  2. 2.

The Japanese specificity 7J was considered to be equivalent to IA4x7 [2–4]

  3. 3.

Whether IA4x7 belonged to the DR locus [5, 6] or not [7, 8] was controversial.

  4. 4.

The WHO Nomenclature Committee designated a part of IA4x7 as DRw9 [9]

  5. 5.

    The determinant MT3 (DRw53) includes DR4, DR7, DRw9 and DRw10 [10]

  6. 6.

Finally, the binding data show that “the DR4x7 determinant, previously described as being associated with all DR4-positive and most DR7-positive individuals tested so far is represented on a molecular subset differing from both the DR4 and DR7 molecular subset, and it is probably equivalent to the DRw53 specificity detected by cytotoxicity assay.” [11].
