Zusammenfassung
Eine „Leberzirrhose mit Cholestase“ wurde erstmals von Addison u. Gull 1851 beschrieben. Hanot bezeichnete dieses Krankheitsbild 1876 als „hypertrophische Leberzirrhose“. Thannhauser u. Magendantz erkannten 1938 die Kombination von biliärer Zirrhose und Xanthomen als Krankheitseinheit. MacMahon und Thannhauser führten für dieses klinische Syndrom 1949 den Begriff „xanthomatous biliary cirrhosis“ ein. Die heutige Bezeichnung „primary biliary cirrhosis“ (PBC) wurde 1950 von Ahrens et al. geprägt. Histopathologische Untersuchungen der Arbeitsgruppe um Popper (1965) ergaben eine sequenzartige Morphogenese, so daß sie die zutreffende Bezeichnung „chronische nichteitrige destruierende Cholangitis“ (CDNC) vorschlugen.
