Experiences with Screening of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Cancer in Hungary

  • L. Faragó

Abstract

Screening for oto-rhino-laryngological cancer, performed in an outpatient department of the Hungarian capital in 1966, revealed a higher prevalence of precancerous and cancerous conditions in the upper airways among workers in certain branches of industry than in the general population (Faragó 1966; Faragó 1967; Faragó 1970). This prompted us to investigate the possible relationship between air pollution, a known carcinogenic factor, and prevalence of precancerous and cancerous lesions of the upper airways (Faragó et al. 1970).
