Abstract

Phase space portraits, Poincaré sections, and maps have been obtained from experiments on the Belousov-Zhabotinskii chemical reaction. For some parameter values the dynamical behavior is described by a strange attractor, that is, the largest Lyapunov exponent is positive. A period-doubling sequence, the U sequence, and a tangent bifurcation have been observed as the flow rate is varied.
