Abstract

This paper describes different approaches and technologies used in the evaluation of health care technology. It is intended as an introduction for physicians, economists, and others without formal training in evaluation research, epidemiology, or biostatistics. We will try to develop the concepts and methods with a minimum of jargon and without going into great technical detail. Some examples of specific technology assessments are used to illustrate methodological points.
