Zusammenfassung
In der Born-Oppenheimer-Näherung (vgl. Teil IV, Abschnitt 4.4) wird angenommen, dass die Kerne Schwingungen in einem Potential V-BO ausführen, welches durch die Energie des Elektronensystems und der Kernabstossung bestimmt ist. Wenn man, wie in Figur 5.1 angedeutet, in der Nähe des Gleichgewichtsabstandes Re das Potential VBO durch eine Parabel annähert und
setzt, so entspricht das Schwingungsproblem genau dem in Teil IV, Abschnitt 3.2 behandelten harmonischen Oszillator.
