Abstract

The basis of ESR spectroscopy is absorption of electromagnetic radiation by unpaired electrons in a magnetic field 1,5–9). Unpaired electrons are characterised by an angular momentum, the “spin”, which is connected with a magnetic moment (Chap. 8). This magnetic moment is influenced by external magnetic fields in such a way that two orientations of different energy are formed [Eq. (9.1) and Fig. 9.1].
