Zusammenfassung

Die genaue Augenuntersuchung kann dem Ophthalmologen oft wichtige Hinweise für das Vorliegen einer Systemerkrankung geben. Nirgendwo im Körper kann die Mikrozirkulation mit größerer Präzision beurteilt werden als im Augenhintergrund, und in keinem Organ sind die Folgen kleiner Herdläsionen so weitreichend wie im Auge selbst. Die meisten Systemerkrankungen können auch das Auge betreffen, und deren Therapie verlangt eine gewisse Kenntnis der vaskulären, zirkulatorischen und immunologischen Veränderungen.
