Summary

A new control for protecting statistical databases against user inference is described. Within a statistical table, the control restricts sensitive statistics and, in addition, sufficiently many nonsensitive statistics to prevent inference about identifiable individuals; it does not restrict entire statistical tables. The control works on a per query basis. It is memoryless, that is, it does not require preproduced output, nor is there a log of formerly answered queries. However, the syntax of the query language must be partially restricted. Although not perfectly secure, the control provides a high level of security.
