Abstract

The United States Air Force developed the Air Transportable Hospital (ATH) concept over 30 years ago to satisfy the need for a rapidly reacting medical capability. Aeromedical transportation of seriously ill patients from the countryside to a medical center is a complicated and expensive effort, sometimes expended to get just one very sick person to definitive medical care. The ATH follows the idea of moving the hospital to the patient instead.
