Characteristics of a New ICP Monitoring Device

  • Conference paper

Abstract

The currently available systems being used for the determination of intracranial dynamics have several inherent disadvantages. In the case of fluid introduction for the measurement of volume-pressure relationships, single lumen, fluid filled catheters cannot record the continuous, initial intracranial pressure response because of changes in stopcock settings and aberrations due to subsequent catheter motion artifact. In addition, fluid filled systems used for the analysis of the intracranial pressure waveform are not well suited for this purpose because air bubbles, lengthy fluid filled plastic connections, and catheter clogging all contribute to low fidelity or inaccurate pulse profiles.
