Steady-State and Bolus Infusions in Hydrocephalus

Abstract

Measurement of ventricular fluid pressure (VFP), including intraventricular infusion tests, is the most reliable method for differentiating between arrested and non-arrested hydrocephalus. The diagnostic value of steady-State infusion techniques has been well established (Børgesen and Gjerris 1982, Lamas and Lobato 1979). In the present study we evaluated the usefulness of various bolus infusions, paying special attention to relations between brain elastance, resistance to outflow of CSF (Rcsf) and ventricular size.
