Abstract

Biologists seem to pay little attention to physical theories that attempt to explain living systems without detailed reference to the elaborate structure that we know exists, notably at the cellular and subcellular levels. I suspect this explains, at least to some extent, why Fröhlich’s theory of coherent excitations (See Fröhlich, 1980) has almost gone unnoticed by the biological community. Therefore, the present chapter will attempt to describe what we know about certain features of the structure and function of eucaryotic cells, selecting those aspects that seem to be most relevant to the theory.
