Abstract

Historically, chemistry has been divided into two areas, organic and inorganic chemistry. Organic chemistry was concerned with the chemicals which could be found in living organisms. It was believed that these substances possessed a special vital element making it impossible to prepare organic chemicals from inorganic material.
